US Uni Goes Gaga

In the past two years it seems the whole world has gone Gaga, Lady Gaga that is. The pop princess fromm New York has taken the world music charts by storm scoring 4 no.1s with here first 5 singles in the UK and embarking on a mammoth world tour.

Despite only being around for a relatively short time Lady Gaga’s influence has been huge in modern pop culture which has lead to an army of devoted fans, who Gaga calls her little monsters. It is then perhaps not totally surprising that Lady Gaga’s influence has now reached beyond the pop world and is now influencing education.

The US university of South Carolina has brought a new sociology course on to the syllabus dedicated to the life, work and rise to fame of Lady Gaga. The course which is set to begin in the spring of 2011 is unsurprisingly taught by a huge fan of the pop star who has said to have seen her in concert 30 times.

The sociology professor Mathieu Deflem told the USC student newspaper, the Daily Gamecock, “We’re going to look at Lady Gaga as a social event.”

“So it’s not the person, and it’s not the music. It’s more this thing out there in society that has 10 million followers on Facebook and six million on Twitter. I mean, that’s a social phenomenon.”

Northampton education institutions and other UK colleges and universities are showing their poker faces by not announcing whether they will be following suit with their own Gaga course.

Farm Fencing

Fencing areas around your farm and land is one of the most important parts of farming. Not only will it provide an invaluable infrastructure offering boundaries and sections it will also ensure that livestock is kept in and unwanted predators are kept out.

Getting your fencing right using the right farm supplies will save an unquantifiable amount of time and frustration in the future, not to mention money and your relationship with your neighbours. Investing in the right materials and fencing for the job will pay dividends but it will depend on what you need your fencing for that will determine what you buy.

Have a think about what the fencing is required to do, what livestock is it meant to keep in or out and what type of terrain it will be installed. There is a choice of barbed wire fencing, woven wire fencing, high tensile wire fencing, electric net fencing and poly wire fencing to name but a few.

Barbed wire fencing is a traditional and effective fencing method but can be difficult to work with and is banned from certain areas of the country. Woven wire fencing is economical and easy to install and tends to be a good choice for perimeter fencing. High tensile fencing is great for its rubber band effect and is very effective for use with animals that like to charge the fence. Electric fencing is a popular choice for pasture management as each day a new patch of land can be cordoned off for grazing. It is light and easy to move and is great for keeping predators out.

There is whole range of farming supplies available out there, so make sure you do your research and are confident with what you want.

In the current economic uncertainty it’s perhaps not surprising that house prices are either stagnant or falling, with this in mind many people are looking for ways to add value to their house as well as making general improvements that they can live with till they decide to put their house on the market.

Here are some home improvements that can be made which will add value to your Devon property.

Increasing the size

A well designed conservatory or extension that doesn’t take up too much outside space could add up to five percent to your value as well as provide a more liveable home for the remainder of your time in the property. However if you end up turning your garden in to something resembling a postage stamp you could wipe out all the extra value you add.

A Second Bathroom

Be it an en suite or on the landing a second bathroom could increase your house price by up to five percent. But when thinking about installing more bathrooms don’t go overboard, a four bedroom house does not need four en suite bathrooms.

Central Heating

Even the ancient Romans had central heating so it’s only natural that houses with good central heating are worth around six percent more than those without it.

Loft Conversion

While a loft conversion could add an extra 20 percent to the value of your house it is expensive and very disruptive. If you plan on a conversion make sure you make the most of the space by adding a bedroom and a bathroom.

It is of course worth bearing in mind that all of these improvements cost a lot of money up front and do not guarantee to increase the value of your house or to make it sell faster.

Paul the Psychic Octopus gets Replaced

Many of you will remember Paul the Octopus from this year’s World Cup. He correctly predicted the winner of every match he was asked about from his tank in the German city of Oberhausen, including predicting the winner of the final between Spain and Netherlands. Unfortunately, Paul the professional psychic octopus died not long after the conclusion of the football tournament.

Since then his tank has been left octopus-less, as Paul was cremated and a small shrine was erected in his honour. However, that has all changed recently as Paul II is now on the scene. He’s spent two months in quarantine after being moved from his home in France, but is now deemed safe and has been released into Paul’s former pool.

He’s only five months old and so is undoubtedly finding the pressure to perform strenuous. He has a class act to follow, and plans for Paul to train Paul II fell apart with Paul’s unfortunate demise. Originally it was hoped that Paul would teach Paul II the art of psychic readings so he was ready to make predictions in the 2012 Euro tournament. Now Paul II will have to get in touch with his inner psychic himself and rely on that to satisfy the fans of the original Paul, who became so famous he received international media attention and multiple death threats.

Of course, Paul II might end up being able to predict football results, but he’ll never be able to make the same use of any abilities he may have as a human psychic. Tarot reading, personal psychic readings and more complex clairvoyance will remain out of his tentacled grasp.

Make Sure the Psychic You Visit is Professional

In this day and age you can never be sure that you’re getting the genuine product. Whether it’s a phishing scam that lands in your email inbox or a shady stall merchant trying to get you to buy knock off merchandise, you need to be sure that you’re getting the real deal if you want to know that you’ve got the best there is.

The same holds true for psychic readings. If you want to be sure that you’re getting an accurate reading then it’s important you visit a professional psychic. The easiest way to be sure that somebody who offers psychic services is genuine is through the recommendation of a friend or by finding them through a reputable psychic service. This way you’ll know that you are getting a genuine psychic rather than a con artist.

The dangers of taking advice from somebody who is simply pretending to be a psychic can be tremendous. Would you take advice from a stranger on the street about your love life? No! Would you ask somebody with no financial experience about your investments? No! So why would you rely on somebody with no qualifications for advice about your future? You simply wouldn’t and shouldn’t.

Luckily, there are plenty of genuine psychics out there ready to give you genuine advice, and they’re very willing to help you. You can do readings over the phone, by email or even by text if you want, making it easy to fit a reading into your day with no extra fuss or bother.
